Teaching Your Parents About Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion: A Resource Guide
Ahhh, family. We can’t live without them, yet we sometimes experience disconnects that make us want to pull our hair out, particularly when it comes to what might be perceived as sensitive topics like diversity, equity, and inclusion.
As our society becomes increasingly diverse and interconnected, many of us want to help our parents understand and embrace the concepts of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI). This can not only strengthen the relationship between you and your parents but also have an intergenerational benefit, such as helping your parents further understand their grandchildren.
I’ve assembled this guide to provide resources and strategies for facilitating meaningful conversations and learning opportunities across generations. It isn’t intended to be exhaustive but rather a starting point for learning and growing together. I hope these resources support you and your family. Now, more than ever, we need them to become part of the allies, advocates, and community members that support their neighbors, regardless of who they are.
