Unpacking the Chaos
How to Identify What Matters Most in the News
You’re at the end of your day. If you have kids, they’re finally in bed asleep, and the house is shut down for the night. You open up your phone and start to scroll on different sites and social media apps. Before you know it, you’re doomscrolling through endless headlines, feeling overwhelmed by the news of the day.
Does this sound like you?
If it does, you’re not alone. With a fast-growing distrust in mainstream media, more people are turning to independent news journalists. This segment of content creators is growing quickly, and with that comes real, raw headlines that can easily compound and become too much to process.
Make no mistake: This overinundation of information is by design. Chaos and information overload are deliberate tactics often used by those in power to distract and divide. When you’re inundated with information, it becomes harder to distinguish which events are important and which are distractions.
For example, Elon Musk’s salute might grab headlines and spark outrage, but behind the scenes, policies and legislation with far-reaching consequences are quietly implemented. This tactic isn’t new. History is full of examples where governments and institutions have used distraction to disempower the public.
So the question is, how do you wade through the barrage of information so you can maintain your focus on the things that matter?
